Choose Purpose Over Pressure

Youth Development & After Care

A community-based programme combining safety, nutrition, education, counselling, protection, practical skills and routes to opportunity for vulnerable young people.

Young people gathered at a Giver of Givers programme day
The goal

Keep young people safe, engaged and moving forward.

The programme aims to improve protection, educational participation, wellbeing, spiritual resilience, life skills and economic prospects for 100 vulnerable young people, while empowering them through access to fully funded scholarships.

The model connects immediate support—supervision, a meal, counselling and protection—with longer-term development through learning, mentorship, recreation, digital access, skills training and career pathways.

Meals are part of delivery

No young person should have to choose between participating and eating.

Every registered beneficiary attending a scheduled session will receive a nutritious meal or substantial snack appropriate to the time and duration of the activity.

  • Weekday after care: a substantial afternoon meal or snack.
  • Weekend and holiday programmes: at least one full meal, plus a snack for longer sessions.
  • Attendance-linked meal registers, food-storage and hygiene controls.

How intake works

Selection is based on need, consent and a support plan.

01

Mobilisation & referral

Families, schools, churches and community partners can identify a young person who may benefit.

02

Application & consent

A beneficiary application is completed, with caregiver consent for minors.

03

Needs & risk screening

The team identifies immediate concerns, strengths and any specialist support required.

04

Individual plan

Each participant is placed in an age-appropriate stream with a support or development plan.

05

Quarterly review

Attendance, needs, progress and referrals are reviewed throughout the year.

Safeguarding & professional practice

Protection is designed into how the centre operates.

Professional counselling and case services remain within the qualifications, confidentiality duties and referral boundaries of the relevant practitioner.

01

A child and youth safeguarding policy, code of conduct, GBV reporting procedure and clear complaints routes.

02

Caregiver consent and controlled collection procedures for minors.

03

Appropriate vetting and reference checks for people working with children.

04

No unsupervised one-to-one activity in unsafe or unobservable spaces.

05

Restricted, confidential case records and responsible handling of personal information.

06

Clear referral procedures for abuse, GBV, exploitation, substance abuse or immediate danger.

07

Safe transport, excursion, kitchen, first-aid and emergency procedures.

08

Voluntary faith participation; spiritual counselling is never a condition for another service.
